Walnuts, like pine nuts earlier in the alphabet, provide a very satisfying crunch between one's molars and are damned tasty as sundae toppings and in carrot cake. But what've they got going on for them that makes them aphrodisiacs?

Y U SO SEX-AY?
Walnuts contain the amino acid arginine, which is known to be helpful in numerous ways, among them, improving "athletic performance." (Nudge, nudge. Wink, wink.) (OK, so as a natural Viagra, it's not exactly a libido starter, but damn; W's a hard letter, y'all!)

Don't overdo it with the walnuts, though; too much arginine in your system can be problematic for some folks.

  2. W is a hard letter.

I have a co-worker who bakes all the time and puts walnuts in everything. And I do mean everything. Now I suddenly understand why...

  3. Yay! Finally an aphrodisiac I can get behind. I love walnuts (almonds and cashews, too). There are few things yummier than chocolate brownies with walnuts. I"m salivating just thinking of them!
    Great post! :-)

  4. Walnuts are one of the few nuts I can eat w/o needing to go to the hospital but I don't make a habit of eating them much. And I don't want him eating them too much either, just in case.

  5. As a matter of fact, I'm having a walnut topper on my salad for lunch at my day job today. Maybe the lady in the cube next to me might enjoy a drink and conversation after work?

  6. Mina, the food porn picture of the walnut is luscious. I eat a walnut, hazelnut, almond mix once a day. Supposed to ensure I live forever. Ha! Thanks for more great recipes and fun facts. I think you could turn this blog series into a book. Think about it! I'd buy it to have the recipes and info all together!

  7. Interesting. And I'd never really looked closely at the interior of a walnut before, but those shapes look a bit like people, getting up to... you know, all sorts. :)

    1. Probably, but I never shop at Wal-Mart, if I can avoid it. (Which I totally can, so I don't.) :-)

  12. Walnuts seem like the most unsexy thing, but then, as I stare at them long enough, they do resemble something.
