The Dark Romance of E...

Red text below = linked text ---> Click to check stuff out!

Emotional Rescue ~ The Rolling Stones

Even at the tender age of about 10 I was able to get all caught up in the fantasy of the right man wanting me all to himself (you know, some day in the future, when I was a grown woman, for pity's sake!). And SQUEE! that funky bass line and that sexy, chant-like breakdown at the end - YES! YES, I want my very own knight coming to my rescue on his fine Arab charger! I...oh...ahem. Excuse me...

Eyes Like Yours ~ Shakira

This ode to the unique excellence of one's lover, with its lush Middle-Eastern feel and pounding dance beat, sets my pulse racing. It's a frenzied, high-energy love song full of passionate woof!, and I just adore it. You rock that Phrygian dominant mode, gurrrl. (The video below is the Spanish version, Ojos Asi. There's the English version, which I reference but for which, of course, I can't find a good video.) (PS: If I could shake it like Shakira, I would have no time for blogging, tell you what.)

Erase/Rewind ~ The Cardigans

Oh, all those players out there, with their little mind games. You know the type. They're interested, they're not interested, they drop little hints then behave as though they hadn't. They tease with their touches, pique you with promises...then they take it all back, with sheepish smiles and/or protestations of innocence. Yeah, right. This song could, I suppose, be about platonic head-screwing, but I think it's too sultry for that. (The interpretation of the song on Wikipedia, which I've linked to the title, above, varies greatly from mine. What do y'all think the song's about?)

  1. I didn't know that song by The Rolling Stones. He is so charismatic even though he isn't good looking to me.

Shakira is amazing to see perform on stage. (I've never seen her live.) Makes me wish I could dance.

I think I've come across The Cardigans on two posts. I have to download more songs because I think I only have 1 on my iPod.

    1. I'm with you on the charismatic Jagger thing - his looks don't appeal to me but his voice = woof!

  2. Erase rewind is one of the greatest songs - I'm embarrassed to say the first time I ever heard it was on the movie Never Been Kissed . . . well maybe I'm not embarrassed, I still enjoy that movie and I stand by it ;-)

    1. Hey, Dude, don't be embarrassed; I think the "guilty pleasures" concept is BS. Life's full of pain, sorrow, and worries - anything that gives me pleasure is a boon and worthy in and of itself.

    1. I finally vaulted into the 21st C and got myself a smartphone today - I bet I'm gonna make *lots* of goofy mistakes on it! :-) Glad you liked the Cardigans tune.

  7. For some reason the Cardigans got a lot of flack after "Lovefool" got exposure (too bad because it's a pretty great song), but it's only the tip of the iceberg. Erase/Rewind is one of many great Cardigans tunes. Cool choice.

    1. I know! I heart "Lovefool" too, but I reckon their hard-core fans felt they strayed far from their original work with it.
